What can you do to eliminate discrimination?

Oliver Wendell Holmes, a supreme court justice once said, “A mind stretched by a new idea can never regain its original dimension.”

If someone told me that a person’s attitude and thinking around prejudice and discrimination could be changed just by reading a four line poem I don’t think I would believe it.  And yet that is exactly what The Sun poem has been doing for the last 25 years.

Please read the extraordinary stories of how The Sun poem has  changed people - in one case it was a matter of seconds!

The 2011 15th Annual Event in Pictures

The MIT Logarhythms

This group was one of the highlights of the event. They are an Acappella group from MIT.

Albert Einstein once said, “You can never solve a problem at the same level of consciousness that created it."

One of the steps that’s been taken in addressing the issue is the creation of the Commonwealth Compact in 2007. It acknowledged that Massachusetts has a reputation of being unwelcoming to people of color. It was signed by 185 companies, organization, institutions, associations and government agencies including the Commonwealth of Mass, the City of Boston and the City of Somerville. The central objective of the Commonwealth Compact is to foster a climate in Massachusetts that values diversity and inclusion. The World Unity Landmark is aligned with this objective and vision. It invites individuals to look at the issue of equality from a higher ground. It creates a new awareness, one that empowers us to embrace differences. Everyday it will foster a climate that values diversity and inclusion impacting the present and future generations. The poem is timeless and universal.
